Moon Rulerships

Picatrix Book 3, Ch. 3.

The Moon is the planet that receives the powers of the planets and distributes them within the world, and is the source of the power of nature. She relates to geometry and arithmetic, applied in particular to watercourses, weights and measures, lofty sciences, nigromancy, medicine, their investigations and those of ancient things. Among languages, she has the Germanic; among exterior body parts, she has the left eye and among internal organs the lungs from whence come the breath; and among religions those that address idols and talismans; among fabrics, hides and canvas; among activities those of polishing, of working with hides, of minting coins and of navigation; of flavors, what is weak like water; among stones, small pearls; silver and those which have a white body; among trees, the papyrus and reed, all white perfumed trees, those which grow upon the earth and do not stand very tall, all short plants, all grasses and pasture; among places, springs of water, lakes, marshes, snowy places and of water in all category; among aromatic plants, those that serve to order and treat the body like cinnamon, ginger, pepper, and others; among animals the ginger draft horse, mules, asses, cows, and hares; among birds, all birds of light movements, all animals that begin in the air and live there, and all aquatic and white birds. When You Want To Petition The Moon

Picatrix Book 3, Ch. 7.

When you want to petition the Moon and request something of her that concerns her, you will dress yourself after the manner of a young boy. Have with you pleasantly scented materials. Take in your hand a silver ring. Be light in your movements and workings; speak in an ornate, suitable, and precise fashion. You will have before you a silver censer. At the 14th day of the lunar month (fullness), that is to say when the Moon is found above the earth and is regarded under positive aspects by the benefic planets, wash yourself, turn your face towards her and say:

"May God save you, Luna, O Mistress who is happy, fortunate, cool and moist, even and beautiful. You are the head and the key of all the other planets, light in your movements, you who have a scintillating light, mistress of happiness and pleasure, of goodly speech, of excellent reputation, of fortunate kingdom. You are she who loves religion, who meditates upon the things of the world, full of subtlety in your thoughts. You love and cherish pleasures, songs, and pleasantries, mistress of ambassadors and envoys, skilled at revealing the mysteries. You are free and priceless, you are for us nearer than the other planets, you retransmit their light; by your bounty you improve them, whatever be their state. Everything in the world is beautiful when you are beautiful, and turns to evil when you are turned to evil. You are the beginning of things and their end. You have more nobility and honor than all the planets. This is why I make to you this request. And I conjure you by Celan, the angel that God has placed with you to manifest all your effects, to have mercy upon me, to accept my request, and by the humility that you have towards our Lord of greatness and towards his reign, to make a good reception to me in what I ask of you and for that which I petition you. I invoke you by all your names: Camar (al Qamar) in Arabic, Luna in Latin, Mehe in Phoenician, Zamahyl (Semele) in Greek, Cerim in Hindu, Celez in Roman, in order that you grant in this place my requests."

Then prostrate yourself to the ground, turned towards the Moon, while repeating the preceding speech. In doing what precedes, take an incense, which is the Incense of Hermits and of which the recipe is composed of twenty-eight ingredients, in this manner. Take some mastic, cardamom, juniper, storax, powdered dandelion (root?) - 1 oz. of each; wild alder, myrrh, camel grass, cinnamon, spikenard, costus, frankincense, saffron - 2 oz of each; some pumpkin and some pumpkin seeds, some henna root - 4 oz of each; some lily root and some celtic nard, some Indian germander, some shelled pinenuts heaped in quantity of 3 oz each; some laudanum, some St. John's wort, some apple leaves, some dried roses, some fruit gelatin - 2 pounds of each; 2 pounds of grape seeds, and five pounds of dates. Mix them with subtle wine in sufficient quantity to incorporate these ingredients; make of them pills the size of chick peas.

At the necessary moment, bring with you a calf, slay it, burn it in a great fire, as we have said above, so that the smoke rises in the air as we have said for the other sacrifices. If you make a sacrifice of a sheep, burn it and eat the liver, as we have said above for the other sacrifices. And you will manifest your request.
